Iranian research team is working to observe the 2009 total solar eclipse on July 22, in Kiribati islands, Pacific Ocean. International astronomers and scientists are preparing to observe the Total solar eclipse which is expected to appear on the Butaritari islet. Prominent experts will go on a ten-day journey, organized by the Astronomical Tours. Participants will land on Nadi in Kiribati on July 16, before the team opens a one-week research and fun tour on the picturesque islands and fly back home on July 26. Depending on sea condition, researchers will enjoy an approx. 6-7 hour ferry drive to Butaritari on July 22, which is the eclipse day and are anticipated to arrive about three hours before the first contact occurs at 02:44 PM local time. According to the experts, the total eclipse happens at 3:57 PM and the maximum contact will last for 3:59 minutes at a viewing site on the beach. The fourth contact happens at 5:01 PM. A four-strong Sayeh Research Institute team has visited the South Pole ahead of moving to the Barents Sea to observe the total solar eclipse on August 1, 2008 as their last mission.
